Deserts de luxe

28 Jul

Actually I am not that much into deserts, but this selection was astonishing good. During our last visit in Bavaria we stopped at this idyllic little village called Hechenberg and enjoyed the good food at the “Moarwirt“.

As you can see on the picture we had a Panna Cotta, a mousse au chocolat, some mint ice cream, cremee brulee etc

Hmmmm…. Delicious

Overload Confusion Foodie

22 Apr

For my master thesis I did project about consumer confusion. Ever since then confusion by overload seems to follow me in daily life. We are confronted with so many opportunities in our life and always have to choose from a huge variety. This occurs to me mostly when at a library, in a book store or when choosing food magazines. Actually I want to buy all of them, but that is impossible in terms of money and space in our kitchen and living room library. But still, I have to many recipe books and food magazines to choose from. I am permanently overloaded  by all this recipes, but I can not change it. I love to sit in a huge pill of books and magazines, getting totally confused by all this beautiful food stimuli. So this leads me to a conclusion: I am a Foodie and I might be confused by overload, but I like it. Therefore you get a new recipe today. It is a delicious salad with grilled turkey breast and ideal for celebrating spring to arrive.

Mediterranean Salad with grilled turkey breast

All you need is a green salad. I prefer a mix of different lettuce types. As an example you can use mâche (corn salad, lamb lettuce) and butterhead lettuce. If you like, romaine lettuce are perfect too. On top you should use a handful of dried tomatoes, pepper, chives and most important some roasted pignolia (pine nuts). Please put all the ingredients in a bowl and season with salt and pepper.

To mix the salad dressing you use the juice of a half lemon and add the double amount of extra vergine olive oil to it. You should season the dressing with grounded salt and freshly grounded pepper. It works out best with you use an old marmalade jar as a “flavour shaker” to mix the salad dressing.

Now you need to grill the turkey breast. It is also possible to do this in a grill pan. Cute the turkey breast in fingerbreadth pieces. I season the meat with a seasoning mix from Herbaria that is called Corsican Macchia. I love this spice. It is organic and comes in a decorative container. If you can not buy this herb in your local organic market (Germany) you can use different types of mediterranean spices. Please also add some oil to the meat and mix it before you grill it.

That is it. Just serve some baguette with it and everyone will love it.

Guten Appetit.

Saturday market at the Fabrik in Hamburg

15 Apr

On a good day you should do something productive (Whoever said that stuck in my mind the whole day making me feel guilty). Since I was lazy the whole day and just enjoyed some sunny minutes in my garden, I thought foodisforeating needs some attention. Therefore I wrote a little summary about the market at the Fabrik in Ottensen (Hamburg). You can find the information right here. I also uploaded a little picture for first impressions.

I enjoyed my visits at this market and hope you do too.

Mediterranean chicken – Ligurian Delight

31 Mar

Last year we spent our summer holidays in Liguria (Italy). I can not even describe to you how intense the flavours of the vegetables and herbs are in this region. It was stunning and almost like a firework in the mouth. Therefore we didn’t need a lot of ingredients to prepare a great meal. The dish I want to show you today is a chicken with potatoes, herbs and zucchini. It is just simple:

All you need is half a chicken for 2 people, 5-6 potatoes (washed and cut in slices), 1 zucchini (also cut, just cut however you like it.), 1-2 tomatoes and fresh herbs (rosemary, mint, sage and whatever you think is mediterranean). Put everything on a backing tray as you can see on the picture.

As you might have assumed, you definitely need some good olive oil and garlic (if you can buy fresh garlic that is even better) ass well as some salt and pepper to go on top of the chicken and vegetables.

Now put the backing try in the preheated oven and cook at a high temperature for about 45 minutes.

I hope you enjoy it.

I wish you a delightful mediterranean meal.

Spring decoration – DIY

18 Mar

The beginning of spring is always something truly beautiful. It feels like nature gives us power to start new things. Since I did not want to use all my energy on cleaning on a Saturday, I decorated inside and outside our house. One result can be seen on the picture on the right side. The results of our garden will be posted later. Since not much is in blossom right now.

If you want to use my idea, you need a milk bottle or some kind of glass bottle. You also might want to use some hay and tree bark. To finish up you need some springly-looking ribbon and some little egg shells that I bought at a decoration shop. You can also use egg shells from normal eggs and break then to fit inside the bottle.

Hope you have as much fun as I did doing this simple spring decoration.

This is not Bavaria, it’s not even close

4 Mar

Right, we are in Hamburg, Germany. A place far away from the Alps, Bavaria and cuckoo clocks. We do not wear Lederhosen (leather pants) and Dirndl. But: we are still German. Maybe that’s why they hung up this cuckoo clock on a tree. Interesting! Maybe tomorrow I find the alps panorama right outside my house. Wouldn’t that be great?
